South Dakota - Day 4

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

Day 4, going home...We had such a great time in South Dakota and it is such a beautiful area that it was hard to leave. With a 12 hour drive in front of us we had to get a quick start in the morning. Jason and I woke up to some strange animal noises outside of our tent. By the time I opened the door I saw something running through the clearing next to us but didn't have my glasses on so I don't have any idea what it was (and I was happy about that - I like to think it was a happy little deer scampering about). Well we were awake so we broke down camp, had breakfast and finally woke the kids up around 7:30 so we could finish taking down camp. Even with the long drive ahead of us we couldn't resist taking the Needles Highway scenic route. I'm so glad we did, neither Jason or I could remember where we watched fireworks from one random 4th of July when we were out there and we figured it out when we stopped to see Mt Rushmore off in the distance, that is where we initially stopped all those years ago.

Piper and I got out of the car to explore the tunnel, she thought it was the coolest thing. Piper also was a little photographer on this trip. She initially had my old camera but ran out of memory space, then actually lost the camera. (I think it may have been stolen at the other campground).
Mt. Rushmore in the distance.

Gorgeous!
My cowboy, moving a fence so we could drive off the mountain.
Breakfast

Driving down the backside of the mountain - at least you could kind of see tire tracks...

KMC Party

JUNE - We had the opportunity to host a little get together for Jason's work. We love having people over and even though it was a bit cold and windy everyone had a great time.

Shea found a toad and that was the main kids entertainment for the evening.

Yay, cabin time!

JUNE

After spending all of last summer at home, we REALLY missed being up at the cabin.

Piper is so cute but won't let me take pictures of her or fuss over her being cute at all.
Reagan isn't scared of no fish!
Piper however refuses to touch it.
Getting ready to go for a canoe ride. Piper loves being able to spend quality time with Jason. She's not very picky on what they do together as long as they are together. They went fishing in the canoe for a long time before heading in for lunch.

Grandpa bought some sparklers for the girls.

If they could only catch those minnows...they may have actually been looking for a quarter that they dropped earlier.
Grandpa and Grandma looking so comfortable.
The girls were really working on their swimming skills.

Meeting Charlie

MAY

We had a BBQ with friends so we could all meet the newest addition, Rob and Angela's son Charlie.

Nate and Lisa brought Harley's little jeep out so the kids could have little races, they all loved piling on the cars!
Piper and Taylor had a chance to bond, they had fun and luckily didn't have enough time to get into any major trouble. I have a feeling if these two had an entire day together they could cause some damage.
Lisa meeting Charlie

Charlie looks just like Rob
This reminds me of a clown car, how many silly girls can pile on this car?
Austin preferred to use the non-motorized bikes
