Farewell old friend

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Jason had to bid farewell to something very important to him today. It's been a staple in his life for over 5 years now and he was reluctant to say goodbye.
His favorite shirt! I have pictures of him holding Piper as a baby in this shirt (which I couldn't find) and Reagan in this shirt. I think I have countless other pictures of him in this shirt as well. He's worn it almost weekly for many years and he was upset when Piper pointed out a little rip in the elbow at dinner tonight. I tried to take it off him and he said no, it's not noticeable so I did the only thing a faithful wife could do and took a hold of that little rip and made it much worse. Now he can't go in public in a tattered shirt. I feel for him, he really had some good times in that shirt.
One of the good old days, holding Reagan in the hospital.

Zoo Day

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

It was so nice to get out of the house this morning and visit the zoo with Niki and Brecken! We all had a great time stretching our legs and taking in some different scenery!
I didn't bundle us up to go to the outdoor exhibits so we spent a lot of time with the fish and birds today. We usually skip over that part of the zoo during the summer so it was kind of new for the kids.

Brecken was a big fan of the fish!
And her cousins, she was laughing at Piper running up and down the big ramp to the tropics exhibit. We can't wait until she's toddling beside them!
We even made it to the bird show. We have never made it to one of the shows, we are always on our own schedule and not in the correct part of the zoo to make a show. Brecken loved the birds! She squaked right along with them. I thought Reagan would really love the bird show too but she was just kind of so - so, she does not like owls, they are too big and scary. Piper, ever the student sat and intently listened to the presenter and after they brought the bald eagle out she said, "hey, that's the national bird" or something to that affect. It was a fun morning even though it was high school field trip day and it was busy. I was glad it was high school students though, they were all very well mannered and stayed out of the way for the girls even when the girls were right in the middle of their groups. It was funny, at first Piper kept scanning the crowds for Maddie (Jason's cousin) and then she even thought she spotted Kathleen and got really excited.

blah blah blah, Winter, is it over yet???

Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Cabin fever alert!! I am over winter and all it's snowy, cold glory! It's only February so I think I'll have to settle in to the realization that we still have a long way to go. The girls and I are pretty bored cooped up in the house so I've luckily enlisted Niki and Brecken to come to the zoo with us tomorrow for a change of scenery. Hopefully everyone will want to hang out in the tropics exhibit and listen to the birds squacking away. That will cheer us up, yeah, sure, that will work for an hour or two anyways.

Milestone

Monday, February 1, 2010

Well now that Piper has turned 5 we have been busy getting her registered for Kindergarten, screened for school and her 5 year well check with the Doctor. She is very excited for school and is happy that there is a chance that her friend Ashley from church may be in her class. She's also done great with her screenings and falls in the middle-high end of the spectrum so there is nothing to worry about there. She's also still not 40lbs, she's 39.2 as of this morning, in the 46 percentile and about 76 percentile for height. We did have a little scare this morning however, the nurse who took her initial blood pressure registered it at 114 or something like that, if kids are over 111 then they are worried about high blood pressure. After the appointment the Doctor took it again and she was down to 104 which is I guess in normal range. Seems still high to me since it was only 10 beats different but the Doctor was not concerned and she's pretty cautious about things.

Now we just have to wait until August to hear back from her school to see if she ends up in the morning or afternoon class and what her bussing schedule will look like. I still haven't decided if I'm going to coordinate the girls' school schedules or keep one home while the other is in school. On one hand I would get one on one time with each of them, while they would get some space from eachother. On the other hand I will have quite a daily schedule of getting one here and the other there. Reagan is currently enrolled for 2 days per week in the morning but if I feel she's ready I may change that to 3 days per week in the afternoon. It's a wait and see game on how much she progresses through the summer and if I feel she can handle being in class with 3, 4, and 5 year olds. As of right now I would say no way is she ready but who knows months from now what she'll be up to.
